Diabatic process
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004969
A thermodynamic process in the atmosphere where heat is exchanged between a system and its surroundings. This exchange leads to a change in the system's internal energy that is not solely due to work done. Examples include radiative heating or cooling, latent heat release from condensation, and sensible heat transfer from the surface.
