Isentrope

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006672

A line on a thermodynamic diagram or a surface in three-dimensional space connecting points of equal potential temperature. Potential temperature is conserved for adiabatic processes, making isentropes useful for tracing air parcel movements in the atmosphere. Air parcels tend to move along isentropic surfaces unless diabatic processes, such as latent heat release or radiative cooling, are present.
