Isentropic

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006673

Describing a process or state in which the entropy of a parcel of air remains constant, implying that no heat is exchanged with its surroundings and no irreversible processes occur. In the atmosphere, adiabatic processes, where air parcels rise or sink without mixing or condensation, are often approximated as isentropic. Air parcels tend to move along isentropic surfaces in the absence of diabatic heating or cooling.
