Irreversible process
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006660
A thermodynamic process that cannot be reversed to its initial state without leaving some change in the surroundings. In the atmosphere, most natural processes, such as friction, turbulent mixing, and phase changes with latent heat release, are irreversible. These processes lead to an increase in the total entropy of the system and its surroundings.
