Change of phase

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004248

The transformation of a substance from one physical state to another, such as from solid to liquid, liquid to gas, or vice versa. In the atmosphere, these changes primarily involve water, including melting, freezing, evaporation, condensation, sublimation, and deposition. Each phase change involves the absorption or release of latent heat, which significantly influences atmospheric energy budgets and weather phenomena.
