Heat of sublimation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006197
The amount of latent heat absorbed or released when a substance changes directly between its solid and gaseous states without passing through a liquid phase. In the atmosphere, this process occurs when ice or snow sublimates into water vapor, absorbing energy from the surroundings. Conversely, deposition releases this energy, influencing atmospheric energy budgets.
