Sublimation nucleus
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009344
A microscopic particle in the atmosphere that facilitates the direct transition of water vapor into ice, bypassing the liquid phase. These nuclei are typically insoluble and possess a crystalline structure similar to ice, allowing water molecules to deposit directly onto their surfaces. Common examples include certain mineral dusts and biological particles.
