Change of state

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004249

The physical process by which a substance transitions from one phase to another, such as solid to liquid, liquid to gas, or vice versa. In meteorology, this refers primarily to water, undergoing melting, freezing, evaporation, condensation, sublimation, and deposition. These phase changes involve the absorption or release of latent heat, significantly impacting atmospheric energy budgets.
