Freezing
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005768
The physical process through which a substance transitions from a liquid to a solid state by cooling to its freezing point. For water, this phase change releases latent heat of fusion, amounting to approximately 334 joules per gram, into the surrounding environment. The freezing point of pure water is 0°C (32°F) at standard atmospheric pressure, but it can be lowered by the presence of dissolved salts.
