Unfreezing
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009882
The phase transition of a substance from a solid to a liquid state, also known as melting or fusion. In meteorology, this process occurs when ice absorbs energy and its temperature reaches the melting point, which is 0°C (32°F) for pure water at standard pressure. The energy required for this transition is the latent heat of fusion, approximately 334 joules per gram of ice.
