Isentropic weight chart
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006677
A chart showing how far apart two chosen isentropic surfaces lie in pressure, a quantity proportional to the mass of air per unit area between them. Large separations mark deep, weakly stable layers and small separations mark shallow, strongly stable ones, so the chart tracks stability and mass convergence or divergence within the isentropic layer. It differs from an isentropic chart of pressure, which shows a single surface.
