Isentropic thickness chart
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006676
A chart showing the vertical distance between two chosen isentropic surfaces, expressed in geometric or geopotential meters. For a fixed difference in potential temperature the thickness is large where static stability is weak and small where it is strong, so the chart maps stability and its horizontal changes, such as across frontal zones. It differs from an isobaric thickness chart, whose thickness measures mean layer temperature.
