Hydrostatic equation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006353
A fundamental equation in meteorology that describes the vertical variation of atmospheric pressure under the assumption of hydrostatic balance. It states that the rate of change of pressure with height is equal to the negative of the product of air density and the acceleration due to gravity. This equation is expressed as dp/dz = -ρg, where p is pressure, z is height, ρ is density, and g is gravity.
