Hydrostatic model

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006355

A type of atmospheric model that incorporates the hydrostatic approximation, meaning it assumes vertical accelerations are negligible and pressure is in hydrostatic balance with gravity. These models are computationally less intensive and are suitable for simulating large-scale atmospheric phenomena, such as synoptic weather systems and climate. Many global and regional weather models historically operated under this assumption.
