Hydrostatic pressure
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006356
The pressure exerted by a fluid at rest due to the weight of the fluid above a given point. In the atmosphere, it is the force per unit area exerted by the column of air above a specific altitude. This pressure decreases with increasing altitude, following an approximately exponential decay in the troposphere.
