Hydrostatic pressure

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001922

The pressure exerted by a fluid at rest due to the force of gravity, acting equally in all directions at a given depth. In a wellbore, it is the pressure exerted by the drilling fluid column, which must be carefully managed to balance formation pressures and prevent uncontrolled influxes of formation fluids. This pressure increases proportionally with fluid density and vertical depth.
