Hydrostatic head
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004355
The pressure exerted by a column of fluid at rest, resulting from the force of gravity. It is calculated as the product of fluid density, gravitational acceleration, and the vertical height of the fluid column. This pressure, independent of the container's shape, is a baseline for determining formation pressure gradients and designing mud weights to control a well during drilling operations.
