Nonhydrostatic model
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007577
A numerical weather prediction model that does not assume hydrostatic balance, meaning it explicitly calculates vertical accelerations. This type of model is necessary for resolving atmospheric phenomena with strong vertical motion, such as thunderstorms, mountain waves, and other mesoscale features. These models are computationally more intensive than hydrostatic models.
