Convection-allowing model
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004666
A numerical weather prediction model with a horizontal grid spacing fine enough to explicitly resolve individual convective storms without relying on parameterizations for convection. These models typically have grid spacings of 4 kilometers or less. They provide more detailed forecasts of precipitation, severe weather, and other mesoscale phenomena.
