Baroclinic model

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003810

A type of numerical weather prediction model that explicitly incorporates the effects of horizontal temperature gradients on constant pressure surfaces, allowing for the simulation of atmospheric processes involving the conversion of potential energy to kinetic energy. These models are capable of forecasting the development and evolution of baroclinic weather systems. They are more complex than barotropic models, including multiple vertical layers.
