Baroclinic wave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003811
A type of atmospheric wave that develops in a baroclinic environment, characterized by a phase difference between temperature and pressure perturbations. These waves are responsible for the formation and propagation of extratropical cyclones and anticyclones. They are a primary mechanism for poleward heat transport in the mid-latitudes.
