Baroclinic atmosphere
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003805
An atmospheric state where surfaces of constant pressure intersect surfaces of constant density or temperature. This condition implies that temperature gradients exist along isobars, leading to thermal wind shear and the generation of atmospheric eddies and cyclones. Most mid-latitude weather systems develop in baroclinic environments.
