Large eddy simulation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006877
A numerical technique for simulating turbulent fluid flows, where the larger, more energetic eddies are directly computed, and the effects of the smaller, unresolved eddies are represented by a subgrid-scale model. This approach offers a compromise between direct numerical simulation and Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes methods. It is widely applied in atmospheric research to study phenomena like convective boundary layers and cloud microphysics.
