Direct numerical simulation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005037

A computational method that solves the Navier-Stokes equations without any turbulence models, resolving all relevant scales of motion in a fluid flow. In atmospheric science, this technique is used for fundamental research into small-scale turbulent processes, such as those in the atmospheric boundary layer. It requires extremely high computational resources.
