Large eddy simulation models

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006878

Numerical models that explicitly resolve the larger, energy-containing turbulent eddies in a fluid flow, while parameterizing the effects of smaller, subgrid-scale eddies. These models are used to study atmospheric boundary layer processes, cloud dynamics, and pollutant dispersion with high spatial and temporal resolution. They offer a more detailed representation of turbulence than Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes models.
