Large eddy model

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006876

A computational fluid dynamics approach that explicitly resolves the larger, energy-containing turbulent eddies while modeling the effects of the smaller, subgrid-scale eddies. This method provides a more detailed representation of turbulent flows than Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes models. It is frequently used in atmospheric science to simulate boundary layer turbulence and cloud dynamics.
