Large calorie

A unit of energy, also known as a kilocalorie (kcal), defined as the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one kilogram of water by one degree Celsius. This unit is commonly used in nutrition to express the energy content of food. In atmospheric science, the standard calorie (small calorie) is more frequently used for energy calculations.
