Kilogram calorie

A unit of energy defined as the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one kilogram of water by one degree Celsius. This is equivalent to one kilocalorie, and in nutritional contexts, it is often simply called a 'calorie' (with a capital C). The standard SI unit for energy is the joule, with 1 kilogram calorie approximately equal to 4184 joules.
