Kilohertz

A unit of frequency equal to one thousand cycles per second, or 1,000 hertz. The kilohertz (kHz) is used to measure the frequency of wave phenomena, including sound waves and electromagnetic waves. In atmospheric science, frequencies in the kilohertz range are relevant to the study of lightning-generated radio waves known as sferics and whistlers.
