An abbreviation for Medium Frequency, referring to the range of electromagnetic radiation frequencies from 300 kilohertz (kHz) to 3 megahertz (MHz). In atmospheric science, MF radio waves are used in some remote sensing applications, such as studying the ionosphere. This frequency band is also commonly used for AM radio broadcasting.
