Moisture content

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007372

The amount of water contained in a material such as soil, fuel or air, expressed as a mass or volume ratio or as a percentage. For air it is given as the mixing ratio, in grams of water vapor per kilogram of dry air, or as specific humidity, in grams per kilogram of moist air; relative humidity instead measures closeness to saturation. For soil it is the mass of water per unit mass of dry soil.
