Computational mode

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004564

An artificial oscillation or instability that can arise in numerical models due to the discretization of continuous equations or the choice of numerical schemes. These modes do not represent physical phenomena but are artifacts of the computational process, potentially leading to inaccurate or unstable model solutions. Careful selection of numerical methods and grid resolution is necessary to mitigate their occurrence in atmospheric models.
