Grid telescoping

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006075

A technique used in numerical models where the spatial resolution of the computational grid is varied, with finer resolution in areas of particular interest and coarser resolution elsewhere. This allows for detailed simulations of localized phenomena, such as hurricanes or frontal systems, without incurring excessive computational expense for the entire domain. It is also known as nesting or variable resolution.
