Adaptive grid

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003288

A computational mesh used in numerical weather prediction and climate models where the resolution varies dynamically across the domain. The grid density increases in regions of high atmospheric activity, such as fronts or developing storms, to capture fine-scale features more accurately. This approach contrasts with static grids, which maintain a uniform resolution throughout the simulation domain.
