Direct interaction approximation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005036
A theoretical closure method used in the study of fluid turbulence to approximate the effects of nonlinear interactions. It provides a set of self-consistent equations for the two-point correlation functions of a turbulent velocity field. The DIA is a two-point, two-time closure that accounts for the cumulative effect of all scales of motion on a given scale, but it is known to have deficiencies in predicting the inertial range energy spectrum.
