Wave turbulence

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010159

A state of a fluid where wave interactions dominate the energy transfer processes, rather than direct eddy interactions as in classical turbulence. This involves a cascade of energy between waves of different scales through nonlinear wave-wave interactions. It is relevant in understanding energy transfer in the ocean and atmosphere, particularly for internal waves.
