Two-dimensional turbulence
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009858
A type of turbulent flow where fluid motion is confined to a plane, meaning there are no velocity components perpendicular to that plane. Unlike three-dimensional turbulence, two-dimensional turbulence exhibits an inverse energy cascade, where energy flows from smaller to larger scales. This concept is relevant for understanding large-scale atmospheric and oceanic flows.
