Energy cascade
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005372
The process by which kinetic energy in a turbulent fluid, such as the atmosphere, is transferred from larger scales of motion to progressively smaller scales. This transfer continues until the energy reaches scales where it is dissipated into heat by molecular viscosity. In the atmosphere, this phenomenon is particularly evident in the breakdown of large eddies into smaller ones.
