Isotropic turbulence

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006732

A state of turbulence where the statistical properties of the turbulent eddies are independent of direction. This idealization simplifies the mathematical treatment of turbulent flows in the atmosphere. It is often assumed for small-scale turbulence in the inertial subrange, where energy cascades from larger to smaller eddies.
