Stress tensor
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009323
A mathematical representation of the state of stress at a point within a continuous medium, describing both normal and shear stresses acting on infinitesimal surfaces. It has nine components, representing the forces acting on three mutually perpendicular planes. In fluid dynamics, it includes terms for both pressure and viscous forces.
