Viscous stresses
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010032
Internal forces within a fluid that arise from its viscosity, acting to resist deformation or flow. These stresses are proportional to the rate of shear strain within the fluid. In the atmosphere, viscous stresses are responsible for the transfer of momentum between adjacent layers of air and contribute to the dissipation of turbulent energy.
