Viscous force

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010031

A resistive force that arises within a fluid due to its viscosity, opposing the relative motion between adjacent layers of the fluid. This internal friction converts kinetic energy into heat. In atmospheric dynamics, viscous forces are generally negligible compared to inertial forces except in very thin boundary layers.
