Dissipation rate

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005066

The rate at which kinetic energy, particularly turbulent kinetic energy, is irreversibly converted into thermal energy through viscous friction. It quantifies the intensity of turbulence at the smallest scales. In the atmospheric boundary layer, the dissipation rate is a key parameter for understanding turbulent mixing and energy transfer.
