Turbulence kinetic energy
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009843
The specific kinetic energy associated with the random, eddying motions in a turbulent fluid flow, averaged over time. Turbulence kinetic energy (TKE) quantifies the intensity of turbulence and is a key variable in models of the atmospheric boundary layer and fluid dynamics. It is calculated as half the sum of the variances of the three wind velocity components and is expressed in units of meters squared per second squared (m²/s²).
