Local isotropy
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007013
A concept in turbulence theory stating that at sufficiently small scales, turbulent eddies become statistically isotropic, meaning their properties are independent of direction. This implies that the smallest eddies are primarily responsible for dissipating kinetic energy into heat, regardless of the direction of the larger-scale flow. The Kolmogorov microscale defines the approximate size below which this isotropy holds.
