Local lightning-flash counter
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007014
An instrument designed to detect and count lightning flashes within a specified radius of its location. It operates by sensing the electromagnetic radiation produced by a lightning discharge, typically registering a count when the signal exceeds a preset threshold. These counters provide data on the frequency of lightning activity in a particular area for climatological studies and operational warnings.
