Intracloud flash

A type of lightning discharge that occurs entirely within a single cloud, without striking the ground or extending to another cloud. It is the most common form of lightning, often appearing as a diffuse brightening of the cloud. These flashes are responsible for redistributing charge within the thundercloud.
