Ground flash

A lightning discharge that occurs between a thundercloud and the Earth's surface. This type of lightning is responsible for most lightning-related damage and injuries, as it directly impacts objects and individuals on the ground. Ground flashes can be either negative, originating from the cloud base, or positive, originating from the upper regions of the cloud.
