Lightning flash
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006953
A complete lightning event, consisting of one or more discrete electrical discharges between a cloud and the ground, between clouds, or within a single cloud. It begins with a stepped leader, followed by a brighter return stroke that neutralizes the charge separation. A single lightning flash can last for several tenths of a second and may contain multiple strokes, each illuminating the discharge channel.
