Forked lightning

A type of lightning discharge characterized by multiple, distinct branches extending from the main lightning channel, giving it a tree-like or forked appearance. This occurs when the leader stroke, which initiates the lightning, follows several different paths through the air. It is a common form of cloud-to-ground lightning.
